The presentation ceremony was at the CCB where the Managing Director, Preston Bryan, presented a cheque to Mr. Lake for US$85,000 for a stadium court.

Director of Sports, Alkins Rogers, said it was a very significant day for him and Anguilla in terms of the exposure the Tennis Academy, to be located at Blowing Point, will afford the island. He commended young Lake for his vision and for the impact the project will have on the youth, sports in general and the future of the island. He spoke appreciatively of the role of the CCB, saying “they are always there us in sports. When we need help, we call and count on Caribbean Commercial Bank.”

Chairman of the Anguilla Tourist Board, John Benjamin, congratulated the CCB for its “good corporate citizenship” - for supporting many aspects of sporting and the cultural heritage of the island. He saw the Tennis Academy as providing opportunities for youth development and tourism promotion and was grateful to the Sports Directorate for promoting tennis on the island.
Mr. Benjamin particularly congratulated Mr. Lake whose early interest in tennis he was pleased to support and help develop. “Mitchell, I would like to congratulate you for what you always wanted to do – tennis – from the time you left school,” Mr. Benjamin went on. “I know your dedication and tenacity and I hope and pray that your dreams will come true because they will be a benefit not only to yourself, but all Anguillians. In the tourism thrust, in terms of sustainable development of the industry, we have to develop all of our avenues. Our culture, heritage and sports have to play an important role in the total package for Anguilla.”

In presenting the cheque, Mr. Bryan expressed the bank’s delight with the project. “The aim of Caribbean Commercial Bank is to be the best and most customer-satisfying bank,” he stated. “One of the tenets of our mission statement is to make meaningful contributions to the community we serve. We see no better way in doing this than to making this contribution towards improving the facilities in Blowing Point. While eighty-five thousand dollars might not seem a big sum, in our context it is a sizeable contribution. It amounts to more than 33% of our total budget for marketing in Anguilla.”
Mr. Bryan referred to many sporting and other activities which CCB regularly sponsors and spoke of the recognition it received from the East Caribbean Central Bank for its role in Anguilla. “Caribbean Commercial Bank’s sponsorship of sports is more than marketing. It is a marriage between the social and economic development of the community we serve and we see our position in the society as instrumental in trying to develop the entire human being,” he added.

Replying, Mitchell Lake praised the CCB for its commitment to the community and the children. “On behalf of the Anguilla Tennis Academy Board and the children of Anguilla, I would like to thank Caribbean Commercial Bank for its leadership and outstanding contribution to the development of a world-class tennis facility for the Anguillian youth,” he said. He urged other businesses to participate in the worthy project.
The ceremony was chaired by Trevor Woodley, CCB’s Assistant Director for Marketing and Research and Development.
